The One With the Sonogram at the End

Thursday, 29 September 1994

Ross learns his ex-wife Carol is pregnant with his child, Rachel gives Barry back his engagement ring, and Monica's parents visit and criticise her while praising Ross.

What happens

• At the museum, Carol finds Ross at work and tells him she is pregnant.
• Rachel discovers her engagement ring is missing and works out that she dropped it into the lasagne Monica made for her parents.
• Ross tells the group about the baby, and explains that Carol and Susan have left it up to him whether he joins them at the sonogram.
• Over dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Geller praise Ross's career and pick at Monica's, dismissing her ambitions as something she is better off without.
• Ross finally tells his parents that Carol is a lesbian, is pregnant, and plans to raise the baby with Susan, and Mrs. Geller immediately turns on Monica for keeping it from them.
• Ross helps Rachel clean up and asks about her meeting with Barry, then quietly leaves his hand where she has leaned back on it.
• At the clinic, Ross asks Carol how decisions will be made and objects to the name she and Susan have already settled on.
• Barry tells Rachel he took their honeymoon in Aruba with her maid of honour Mindy and is happier now, and Rachel hands back the ring.
• The argument over whose surnames go on the baby pushes Ross to say he cannot be part of it, until the sonogram image appears and stops all three of them.
