The One Where Eddie Won't Go

Thursday, 28 March 1996

Chandler cannot get his unnerving roommate Eddie to move out, Joey loses his furniture to credit card debt after refusing a small part, and a book about female empowerment turns Phoebe, Monica and Rachel on each other.

What happens

• Chandler wakes to find Eddie sitting in his bedroom watching him sleep, throws him out, and Eddie promises to be gone by the next evening.
• Phoebe and Monica press a book about women reclaiming their wind from men on Rachel, and Phoebe reads Joey offering pastries as proof of the theory.
• Joey's agent Estelle lines up an audition for a two-line cab driver, and Joey turns it down as beneath a former soap opera neurosurgeon.
• Rachel finishes the book, refuses to leave for the film with Ross, and accuses him of stealing her wind.
• Joey opens a credit card bill for thousands spent on ceramic animals, and Ross telling him to take the cab job turns into a fight that sends Ross home.
• Eddie is still in the apartment dehydrating fruit with no memory of agreeing to leave, so Chandler orders him out a second time and Eddie pockets the goldfish on his way.
• Joey goes to the cab driver audition after all and talks himself out of the part by lecturing the casting director.
• The book's questionnaire turns into Monica, Phoebe and Rachel dredging up old betrayals over boyfriends, and the three stop speaking.
• Movers repossess Joey's collection, Ross apologises for being harsh and admires Joey for taking the risk, then buys back the porcelain greyhound as a gift.
• Rachel brings Monica and Phoebe cake at the coffee house and the three make peace.
• Eddie turns up remembering none of it and inventing a trip to Las Vegas with Chandler, so Chandler and Joey pretend Eddie has the wrong apartment and Joey moves back in.
