The One Where Chandler Gets Caught

Thursday, 15 January 2004

Monica and Chandler secretly hunt for a house in Westchester, are mistaken for adulterers by Phoebe and Rachel, and end up buying the house over their friends' objections.

What happens

• Over coffee, Phoebe makes everyone choose between giving up food or giving up sex, and Monica answers so fast that Chandler takes offence.
• From the window of the coffee house, Phoebe and Rachel watch Chandler get into a car with a blonde woman, and Phoebe decides he is cheating.
• Phoebe phones Chandler, who says he is stuck at the office all day, so Phoebe and Rachel set off to follow the car.
• At home, Chandler and Monica agree the house is everything they wanted, decide to buy it, and agree to tell nobody until it is certain.
• Rachel reports the trip to Westchester to the others, and the group argues about whether Monica should be told.
• The friends break the news to Monica, who is unmoved and instead asks them what they thought of the house.
• Chandler walks in, explains that Nancy is their realtor, and Monica admits they are house-hunting because they do not want to raise the baby in the city.
• Chandler and Monica reveal they have already made an offer, which upsets Joey, while Rachel concedes the house is lovely.
• The others plead with them to stay, and Ross confesses that seeing them through his window makes him feel better when he is alone.
• Nancy calls to say the sellers rejected the offer, but once the friends leave, Chandler tells Monica he lied and the house is theirs.
• At the coffee house, Chandler and Monica hand out presents and then break the news that they have bought the house.
