The One With the Princess Leia Fantasy

Monday, 16 September 1996

Ross tells Rachel his Princess Leia fantasy, then loses it after Chandler shares a fantasy involving his own mother, while Joey tries to tolerate Janice and a sleepless Monica grieves Richard.

What happens

• Monica has not slept in three nights since her breakup with Richard, and finding one of his cigar butts has set her off again.
• Joey assumes Chandler is about to dump Janice, but Chandler insists he is staying with her because she makes him happy.
• Rachel asks Ross for a fantasy of his own and he describes Princess Leia in her gold bikini from Return of the Jedi.
• Chandler asks Joey outright to say he likes Janice, and Joey admits he cannot stand being near her.
• Ross is furious that Rachel repeated his fantasy to Phoebe, and Rachel argues that close friends tell each other everything.
• Janice confronts Joey about hating her and proposes a whole day out together for Chandler's sake.
• Ross tries sharing with Chandler, and Chandler ruins it by describing how his mother appears in his head during sex.
• Joey comes back from the day with Janice still unable to like her, but sure he can now be around her to keep Chandler.
• Monica's father visits and tells her Richard is taking the breakup badly, which finally lets her fall asleep.
• Rachel arrives in the Leia costume, but Ross now pictures Chandler's mother in her place and blames Chandler for wrecking it.
