The One With a Chick and a Duck

Thursday, 17 April 1997

Joey buys a baby chick that he and Chandler end up keeping, Monica accepts Pete's offer of a head chef job and then walks away from it, and Ross misses a television appearance for an injured Rachel.

What happens

• Monica practises roller skating outside Central Perk and crashes into Rachel, hurting her ribs.
• Pete comes back from his trip and tells Monica he has bought a restaurant and wants her as head chef.
• Monica tells Rachel she cannot take the job because Pete has feelings for her that she does not return.
• Joey brings home a baby chick and gives it to Chandler as a present.
• Pete says he met a journalist named Ann on the plane, so Monica accepts the job and quits the diner.
• Phoebe works out that Ann does not exist, and Pete admits he invented her and makes Phoebe promise to keep quiet.
• Chandler and Joey argue like exhausted parents over who looks after the chick and agree to take her back.
• Rachel refuses to go to the hospital before her boss's dinner, so Ross stays behind to help her get ready.
• The store and the shelter both refuse the chick, so Chandler keeps her, and he later brings home a duck as well.
• Pete admits he still loves Monica, she turns down the job and ends the friendship, then kisses him.
• Ross tells Rachel he skipped his Discovery Channel panel to be with her at the hospital, and she is moved.
