The One With the Blind Dates

Thursday, 6 February 2003

Joey and Phoebe secretly arrange terrible blind dates for Ross and Rachel to push them back together, while Monica and Chandler babysit Emma and try to conceive before Monica's ovulation window closes.

What happens

• Joey tells Ross that his old feelings for Rachel are gone, and Ross says that he and Rachel should start seeing other people, then asks Joey to find him a date.
• Phoebe and Joey compare notes, realise Ross and Rachel have each asked them for a setup, and agree to arrange dates so awful that the pair will see they belong together.
• Rachel asks Monica and Chandler to look after Emma for the evening while she goes on the date Phoebe has arranged.
• Joey admits that the woman he picked for Ross is a puzzle-loving teacher, so Phoebe has him cancel her without telling Ross, leaving Ross to be stood up.
• Monica discovers it is already the last day of her ovulation window, and Chandler confesses he has used up most of her ovulation tests on himself.
• Rachel's date Steve tells her he lost his restaurant to drugs, has no money, prints t-shirts he hates, and believes he is infertile.
• Once Emma falls asleep, Monica and Chandler go to the bedroom, and Joey lets himself in, finds the baby alone and carries her out.
• The waiter admits the staff have a bet running on how long Ross will sit there before giving up, so Ross demands his free crab cakes and leaves.
• Chandler admits to Joey that he and Monica were trying for a baby, and Joey agrees to keep it from Rachel only if they name their first child Joey.
• Comparing their two ruined evenings, Ross and Rachel work out that the dates were sabotaged on purpose, and Phoebe and Joey run for it.
