The One With Rachel's Other Sister

Thursday, 21 November 2002

Rachel's sister Amy arrives for Thanksgiving and demands to be named Emma's guardian, which exposes that Monica and Chandler already hold the job and leaves Chandler doubting he could raise a child on his own.

What happens

• Chandler persuades Monica to bring out their expensive wedding china instead of saving it forever.
• Joey sees the parade on television and realises he has missed the appearance his producer ordered everyone to attend.
• Amy turns up wanting a hair straightener and fails to recognise Ross, insisting Rachel's old boyfriend was someone else entirely.
• Amy's married boyfriend cancels on her, and Rachel decides to bring her to Monica's Thanksgiving dinner.
• Amy announces she would take Emma if Ross and Rachel died, and they tell her the baby would go to Monica and Chandler instead.
• Chandler learns he would lose Emma if Monica died, because Ross and Rachel see him as the fun parent rather than the firm one.
• Rachel and Amy drag up years of grievances until Amy insults Emma, and the two of them wrestle through the apartment while Monica's china is destroyed.
• Chandler breaks up the fight and makes both sisters apologise, and Ross tells him he has earned the right to raise Emma.
• Chandler smashes the rest of the plates while fetching Emma and decides to hide it from Monica.
• Phoebe coaches Joey through a simple excuse about a crisis at home, and his producer accepts it.
