The One With All the Resolutions

Thursday, 7 January 1999

Ross resolves to do one new thing every day, which puts him in leather pants he cannot get back on halfway through a date, while Rachel and Joey work out that they both know about Monica and Chandler.

What happens

• Ross announces he will do one thing he has never done before every day, then bets Chandler fifty dollars he cannot go a week without making fun of his friends.
• Joey decides to learn the guitar so one skill on his resume is real, and Phoebe appoints herself his teacher.
• Monica suggests Rachel gossip less, and Rachel reluctantly makes that her own resolution.
• Ross counts asking out a woman named Elizabeth Hornswoggle as his new thing for the day, and Chandler has to sit on the joke to protect the bet.
• Ross turns up in leather pants, Chandler walks out rather than lose the money, and everyone else tells Ross the truth about them the moment he is gone.
• Phoebe catches Joey learning the real names of the chords, Joey tells her the whole method is stupid, and he quits to find a professional teacher.
• Rachel picks up the phone and hears Monica making plans to sneak over to Chandler.
• Ross calls Joey from Elizabeth's bathroom because the sweat has shrunk his pants, and Joey's advice about powder and lotion leaves him coated in paste before Joey hangs up on him.
• Rachel and Joey circle each other until both admit they know about Monica and Chandler, and Joey is relieved to finally have someone to talk to.
