The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS

Thursday, 15 October 1998

Ross persuades Emily to come to New York, but only by agreeing never to see Rachel again, while Phoebe hunts for a selfless good deed and Chandler discovers Monica rates him her best ever.

What happens

• Rachel walks in on Monica in her bedroom and Monica covers by claiming she is seeing a shy waiter from the restaurant.
• Joey lands a job on a PBS telethon and tells Phoebe that no good deed is truly selfless, so Phoebe sets out to prove him wrong.
• Emily telephones Ross to demand he stop pestering her relatives, then admits she misses him too.
• Rachel mentions that Monica called the secret boyfriend the best sex she ever had, and Chandler realises she means him.
• Ross tells the others that Emily is willing to repair the marriage, but only if he moves to London.
• Joey arrives at the telethon and learns he is not the host at all, only a volunteer answering pledge phones.
• Ross refuses to leave Ben behind and Emily agrees to come to New York instead, on the condition that he never sees Rachel again.
• Phoebe pledges two hundred dollars to the telethon while staying angry about it, but her donation puts Joey on camera and the happiness ruins her selfless deed.
• Chandler tells Monica she is the reason he is any good in bed, and she forgives the gloating and takes him back.
• Rachel, not knowing what Emily has asked for, urges Ross to give his wife whatever she wants, and Ross telephones Emily to accept.
