The One After "I Do"

Thursday, 27 September 2001

At Monica and Chandler's wedding reception, Rachel turns out to be the pregnant one, Phoebe covers for her, and a second test confirms it before Rachel decides to have the baby.

What happens

• Ross congratulates Monica on a pregnancy in front of Joey, and Monica tells them both that she is not pregnant.
• Phoebe, who found the positive test in the trash, claims the baby is hers and names the actor James Brolin as the father.
• Chandler tells Monica he secretly took six weeks of dancing lessons, then finds his new shoes too slippery to dance in.
• Rachel tells Phoebe she will not name the father to anyone until she has told him herself.
• Ross introduces himself to Mona, invents a famous botanist to make her like her own name, and swaps a place card to join her table.
• Monica, still believing Phoebe is pregnant, lists how hard raising the baby alone will be, and Rachel starts to cry.
• Monica interrupts Phoebe's story about Brolin and tells her that Rachel is the one who is pregnant.
• Dennis Phillips turns Joey down for the Broadway show because the cast is entirely Chinese.
• Phoebe lies that the second test is negative, watches Rachel's reaction, then admits it is positive, and Rachel decides to have the baby.
• A heavy girl leaves Ross unable to walk after their dance, and Mona praises Joey instead as the genuinely nice one.
