The One With the Birthing Video

Thursday, 7 February 2002

Chandler mistakes Phoebe's birthing video for pornography and is left traumatised, Mona breaks up with Ross for hiding that Rachel has moved in, and Joey finally tells Ross which woman he has fallen for.

What happens

• Ross sets off to tell Mona that Rachel has moved in, and Phoebe asks him to carry home a video of a friend's labour.
• Phoebe lends Joey a borrowed dog to pull him out of his misery over Rachel.
• Chandler finds the tape at home, assumes Monica has bought him pornography for Valentine's Day, and watches a woman give birth instead.
• Monica explains the tape belongs to Phoebe, sees a few seconds of it herself, and their romantic evening collapses.
• Mona laughs at the idea of a man letting his pregnant ex move in, so Ross says nothing about Rachel.
• Phoebe finds the dog subdued and blames Joey for talking his own gloom into it.
• Mona asks Rachel to go back to her own place and give them privacy, and Rachel tells her that she lives there.
• Rachel takes shelter at Monica's while Mona ends things with Ross, and the three of them watch the tape through to the birth, which finally settles Chandler and Monica.
• Joey asks Ross for advice about wanting a woman who belongs to a friend, and once Ross urges him to speak up, Joey names Rachel.
