Ross insists Rachel and Phoebe are unprepared and starts ambushing them, Chandler passes off a found mixtape as a handmade Valentine's gift, and Joey hires a look-alike to pose as his identical twin for a paid medical study.

What happens

• Joey pressures his friends for a bigger tip because he needs money for new head shots, and he decides to sign up for paid medical research again.
• Rachel and Phoebe come back from a self-defense class certain they can fight anyone off, and Ross tells them real safety requires a state of constant awareness he calls unagi.
• Chandler admits he has nothing for the handmade Valentine's gift he and Monica promised each other, and he asks whether anyone else has made something he could claim as his own.
• The research clinic tells Joey the only study open is a two-thousand-dollar trial that accepts identical twins alone.
• Ross hides in the hallway and jumps out at Rachel and Phoebe to prove they were not ready for an attack.
• Chandler finds an old tape in a closet and gives it to Monica as a romantic compilation he made himself.
• Chandler recognises that Monica's sock bunny is one of Phoebe's, and Monica confesses she forgot and promises to cook and do whatever he wants to make up for it.
• Joey introduces Carl, the look-alike he hired to pose as his twin, and the doctor at the clinic refuses them because the two men are obviously not identical.
• Monica plays the tape and hears Janice's birthday message on it, which exposes Chandler's gift as a leftover from an ex-girlfriend.
• Ross charges at two women outside the coffee house believing they are Rachel and Phoebe, while the real Rachel and Phoebe watch from a window and leave him to it.
