The One Where Paul's the Man

Thursday, 4 May 2000

Paul orders Ross to stop seeing Elizabeth, then Ross ends up trapped in Paul's cabin during Paul's romantic weekend with Rachel, while Chandler hears a message about a wedding venue Monica put her name down for.

What happens

• Paul tells Ross that he has changed his mind and wants him to stop seeing Elizabeth, and threatens to have the university fire him.
• Joey asks the dry cleaner to put his photograph back on the celebrity wall, and the cleaner refuses until the new show is actually on the air.
• At the museum Rachel and Phoebe talk Monica into adding her name to the two-year wedding waiting list, and both of them add their own names as well.
• Elizabeth leaves the cabin to buy condoms, and Paul arrives at the very same house with Rachel for his surprise weekend.
• Chandler hears the museum's message about a cancellation for the Bing-Geller wedding and picks up the phone.
• Rachel discovers Ross hiding under the couch, and after stalling Paul with drink requests she pushes Ross into a bedroom that turns out to be Paul's.
• Joey takes the clerk at the dry cleaners out for drinks to get his picture hung, and the cleaner defaces the photograph and throws him out because the clerk is his wife.
• From his hiding place Ross watches Paul give himself a pep talk in the mirror, admire his own chest and sing about being a love machine.
• Paul catches Ross and fires him, so Ross repeats the mirror routine back at him, and Paul drops the threat and shows him to the guest room.
• Monica apologises and Chandler accepts, but once she leaves he tells Phoebe the whole panic was an act because he is preparing to propose.
