The One With All the Rugby

Thursday, 26 February 1998

Ross plays rugby with Emily's English friends to prove he is tough, Chandler pretends he is being transferred to Yemen to escape Janice, and Monica hunts for whatever a mysterious light switch controls.

What happens

• Rachel takes Chandler to a nail salon for a manicure, and the two of them run into Janice there.
• Monica becomes fixated on a light switch in Joey's apartment that appears to do nothing, and Joey tells her he has never cared.
• Once Janice leaves, Chandler admits he cannot stand her and decides to end the romance before it properly starts.
• Emily's friends Liam and Devon invite Ross to their rugby match, and Ross accepts after Emily laughs at the idea of him playing.
• Chandler's attempt to let Janice down fails, so he tells her his company is sending him to Yemen the next day.
• Janice turns up at the apartment to help Chandler pack, and Joey learns the move is a lie.
• Ross explains that he took the match because Emily's old boyfriend is a rugby player and he wants to prove himself to her.
• After Ross refuses to quit at halftime, Emily tells him each player's weak spot, including her friend Liam's bad knees, and Ross charges back in.
• Rachel discovers Monica has drilled holes in the apartment wall chasing the switch's wiring and hung pictures to cover them.
• Janice refuses to leave the airport until the plane takes off, so Chandler buys a real ticket and boards the flight to Yemen.
