The One With the Worst Best Man Ever

Thursday, 30 April 1998

Ross names Joey his best man instead of Chandler, and Joey's bachelor party ends with Ross's grandmother's wedding ring missing, while Monica and Rachel throw Phoebe a baby shower that goes badly wrong.

What happens

• Joey complains that Chandler was best man at Ross's first wedding, and Ross settles it by giving the job to Joey.
• Joey refuses to invite the women to the bachelor party, so Monica and Rachel invent a baby shower for Phoebe on the spot.
• Ross tells Joey to keep the party quiet and hire no strippers, and Joey decides to book one anyway.
• Monica and Rachel choose shower gifts Phoebe cannot touch until after the birth, and Phoebe turns on them furiously at the party.
• Joey invites the stripper to stay the night, and wakes to find her gone and the ring box empty.
• Joey finally admits the loss to Ross, and the three men lure the stripper to Chandler's office under fake names, where she denies taking anything.
• Phoebe has a contraction over tea at Monica and Rachel's, which turns out to be false labour.
• Working out that nobody in the apartment took the ring, the men realise the duck swallowed it.
• Phoebe admits she dreads giving up the babies, and Monica and Rachel convince her that being their aunt is worth having.
• The vet recovers the ring, and Ross tells Joey and Chandler he wants both of them as his best men.
