The One With All the Haste

Thursday, 9 April 1998

Ross proposes to Emily after six weeks together rather than lose her to London, while Monica and Rachel bet the apartment against a pair of Knicks tickets, lose, and take the apartment back anyway.

What happens

• Rachel complains about the noise and cramped rooms of the smaller apartment, and Monica admits that she hates the place too.
• Emily, who talked Ross into getting his ear pierced, packs for her flight home while Ross tries and fails to make her stay another day.
• Rachel offers Chandler and Joey her mother's courtside Knicks season tickets in exchange for the apartment, and Chandler refuses.
• Ross tells Chandler and Joey that he wants Emily to move in with him, and the two of them talk him out of asking.
• Rachel talks Chandler and Joey into a winner-takes-all bet on a single card, and Joey draws a king that wins them the tickets and the apartment.
• Emily turns down the idea of moving because her family and her job are in London, and Ross cannot move there because Ben is in New York.
• Emily raises marriage as a hypothetical, Ross takes it seriously and proposes, and Emily accepts.
• Chandler and Joey get back from the game to find that Monica and Rachel have moved into the big apartment and will not give it up.
• Monica and Rachel keep the apartment by kissing each other for a minute, and Chandler takes the deal.
• Ross brings Emily to the apartment to announce the engagement, and Rachel tells him she is happy for him.
