The One Where They're Up All Night

Thursday, 11 January 2001

Ross and Joey get locked out on the roof after a comet washout, Rachel blames Tag for contracts she misplaced herself, Chandler cannot sleep, and Phoebe battles a beeping smoke detector all night.

What happens

• Ross brings the group to the roof to watch a comet, and one by one they get bored and go back inside until only Ross and Joey are left.
• Ross realises Joey has pulled the pipe that was propping the door open, and the two of them are shut out on the roof.
• Chandler cannot sleep and keeps waking Monica with questions, so she sends him out to the living room.
• Phoebe is woken by a beeping smoke detector, and it keeps beeping even after she tears it off the wall and pulls the battery.
• Rachel accuses Tag of failing to send out the Milan contracts, and when he insists she never gave them to him, the two of them head to the office to settle it.
• Rachel finds the contracts sitting on her own desk, sends Tag off to search the copy room, and hides the folder in his bottom drawer.
• Phoebe wraps the detector in a blanket and drops it down the trash chute, and a fireman brings it back, points out her name on the blanket and tells her about the reset button.
• Chandler wakes Monica to tell her she fell asleep during sex, and insists they do it again properly.
• Tag catches Rachel out when she names the drawer the folder is in, and she abandons the blame rather than admit the mistake.
• With the fire escape ladder stuck, Ross climbs down Joey's body and drops to the ground, twisting his ankle.
