The One With Joey's Award

Joey is nominated for a soap opera award, loses, and walks off with the trophy he accepted for an absent winner, while Ross learns that a student's declaration of love is a ploy for a better grade.

What happens

• Joey tells the others his soap work has earned him a Soapie nomination and picks Rachel as his date.
• Ross tells his student Ned Morse he has failed the midterm, and Morse blames it on being in love with Ross.
• Rachel catches Joey rehearsing a victory speech with a syrup bottle and coaches him on how to look gracious if he loses.
• Monica realises the wedding means giving up first kisses and anyone new, and it unsettles her.
• Rachel describes her own teenage crush on a teacher, and Ross decides to go easy on Morse.
• Joey loses the award to Gavin Grant, then presents the next category and accepts the winner's trophy on her behalf.
• Back home, Joey admits he has kept the trophy and props it above the television so visitors assume it is his.
• Rachel argues that a stolen award is worthless and Joey agrees to return it.
• Another student, Lewis, tells Ross that Morse has a girlfriend and has run the same con on three other teachers.
• Jessica Ashley tosses the trophy aside as beneath her, so Joey and Rachel decide to take it back.
