The One With Ross's Library Book

Thursday, 16 November 2000

Ross patrols the library aisle where couples keep having sex in front of his dissertation, Rachel talks Joey into taking Erin seriously just as Erin loses interest, and Janice invites herself to Monica and Chandler's wedding.

What happens

• Joey leaves his date Erin in the bathroom and asks Rachel to warn her off him before he goes to work, and Rachel refuses.
• Ross takes Chandler to the university library to show off his shelved dissertation, and the two of them interrupt a couple having sex in the same aisle.
• The customer rejecting Monica's chicken turns out to be Janice, who spots the engagement ring and gets herself and her boyfriend Clark invited to the wedding.
• Rachel and Phoebe spend the day with Erin, decide she is perfect for Joey, and push him to keep seeing her while Joey insists it is going nowhere.
• The head librarian tells Ross the library is too understaffed to add security, so Ross decides to guard the Paleontology stacks himself.
• Clark stands Janice up at dinner, and Chandler's attempt to talk the wedding down to family only convinces Janice that she counts as family.
• Erin tells Rachel and Phoebe there is no spark and asks them to let Joey down for her, using the same loner excuse Joey had wanted used on her.
• Ross confronts a woman in the stacks and finds she is the one person who borrowed his book, and the two of them end up on the floor in front of it.
• Rachel breaks the news to Joey, who takes it calmly and asks that next time she check the woman actually likes him.
• Janice turns up wanting to stay the night, and Monica gets rid of her by claiming Chandler still has feelings for her, which also loses them her at the wedding.
