The One Where They All Turn Thirty

Rachel turns thirty, panics over her timetable for marriage and children, and ends things with Tag, while flashbacks show how Ross, Monica and Phoebe each handled their own thirtieth birthdays.

What happens

• Rachel refuses to come out of her room on her thirtieth birthday and emerges only for the presents she picked from a list she handed round.
• In a flashback to Phoebe's thirtieth, Phoebe rides a hippity-hop for a mile and completes the list of things she wanted to do before thirty.
• In a flashback to Ross's thirtieth, Ross buys a sports car and insists to the others that he has always been a car enthusiast.
• In a flashback to Monica's thirtieth, Monica arrives drunk after a night out with the bus boys, and Chandler coaches her to fake surprise for the formal party waiting inside.
• In a flashback to Phoebe's thirtieth, Ursula produces a birth certificate proving the twins are thirty-one, and Phoebe realises she has lost an entire year.
• Monica and Chandler's card calls Rachel a grandmother, and Rachel breaks down because she has neither a husband nor children.
• Rachel builds a timetable for having three children and works out that it requires her to have already met the man she will marry.
• In a flashback to Monica's thirtieth, Monica abandons her speech and announces to her parents that she is drunk, then falls over.
• In a flashback to Phoebe's thirtieth, Joey follows Phoebe outside and kisses her, giving her the perfect kiss she wanted.
• Rachel ends the relationship with Tag, who admits he is twenty-four, and the two of them part on good terms.
