The One With the Cheap Wedding Dress

Thursday, 15 March 2001

Monica has to choose between the discount wedding dress she fought a stranger for and the swing band Chandler wants, while Ross and Joey find out they are dating the same new neighbour.

What happens

• Ross carries a heavy box for Kristen, a woman moving in down the street, and she agrees to have dinner with him that night.
• Monica finds her wedding dress at a bridal shop and tells a bride called Megan about the discount sale at Kleinman's in Brooklyn.
• Joey helps Kristen with her boxes without knowing Ross has met her, and she agrees to go out with him the following night.
• At the Kleinman's sale Monica grabs the dress and finds Megan holding the other end, so Monica pins her down and sends the dress out of the store with Phoebe and Rachel.
• Chandler works out that Ross and Joey are seeing the same woman and gets them both to say her name at once.
• Ross and Joey agree that each of them gets one more date with Kristen and that she will choose, with a hundred dollar limit on what they spend.
• Megan phones Monica to say she has booked the Swing Kings for Monica's wedding day and will only release them in exchange for the dress.
• Monica, Phoebe and Rachel try to turn Chandler against the band, but he says dancing to them was the moment he knew he wanted Monica, so she gives up on the dress.
• Joey shows up at the restaurant during Ross's date and the two of them expose each other's worst history until Kristen walks out on both.
• Monica tells Chandler she is returning the dress and has booked the Swing Kings, and he insults the dress to make it easier for her.
